Jilin Jimei Foods, Ltd. is a breeder of hybrid seed corn varieties and a grower of seeds as its primary business focus. As offshoots of the seed production business popcorn and sweet corn seeds were developed which propelled Jilin Jimei Foods into the areas of production and processing of these two products.

Today, JIMEI brand popcorn is one of the few popcorn products produced from the seed to the table entirely in China. JIMEI is one of the largest producers of popcorn in China.

After testing of sweet corn varieties originated in the United States, Jilin Jimei Foods embarked on the mission of making sweet corn available for export to the international marketplace. As of this date, Jilin Jimei Foods, Ltd. is the only company canning sweet corn in China who can export USA quality canned corn.

After inception of the Joint Venture, Friday Canning Corporation of New Richmond, Wisconsin USA (one of the largest private label sweet corn canners in the United States) was brought into the Joint Venture to provide technical support and guidance in the vegetable canning facility. A new factory building was designed under the supervision of Friday Canning Corporation, and was constructed in the city of Gongzholin near Changchun in Jilin Province of northeast China, the "Corn Belt" of China.

Equipment for the canning factory was supplied from the United States, and key technical personnel were made available on-site from Friday Canning Corporation's headquarters in the United States. In fact, the current President of Friday Canning Corporation personally spent the first two months at the factory to provide technical expertise, logistics and training for the beginning of the initial canning operation.

Training of the Chinese nationals was accomplished because of the interaction of the USA personnel during several years of sweet corn canning seasons on-site at the Jilin Jimei Foods factory. Further, Jilin Jimei Foods' Deputy General Manager in charge of canning was trained in the United States at the Friday Canning facilities in Wisconsin, and then attended the USDA foods processing school at the University of Minnesota and obtained USDA certification.

Official USDA certification provides the Jilin Jimei Foods canning factory with the ability to provide USA quality canned goods for export from the People's Republic of China under the official guidelines of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Capacity of the canning factory for whole kernel sweet corn processing, is currently in excess of 150,000 cases per year. Addition of expansion equipment in 1996 will bring the capacity to over 200,000 cases per year which is currently being marketed domestically due to high demand for the Jilin Jimei Foods brand name within China.
